Compelling Grounds on Why Dogs are Better Than Cats

Settling the Age-old Dispute on Dogs vs. Cats

Murray, NE.–When it comes to pets in the home, there are two options that are chosen the most: cats and dogs. As someone who has grown up with both cats and dogs in my home, I love both animals. While cats serve as great companions, there are many solid reasons why dogs are better than cats.

Dogs are much more simple to train compared to cats. Not only are they more easy to train, you can also teach them a lot more than a cat. Dogs can be taught tricks, manners, behaviors and commands. Dogs actually love being trained and having tasks to perform.

I think it’s probably fair to say that even cat lovers don’t love litter boxes! Now matter how hard you try to keep up and keep them clean, there will always be that smell of a litter box. Plus, cat litter often tracks all over the house or the area where the litter box is. It’s practically impossible finding a perfect spot for a litter box in a small home. Cleaning the litter box in general is always just stinky and dusty! Dogs don’t need litter boxes. They can be potty trained and can mostly stick to a schedule like us humans. Dogs mostly do their business out in the yard, or during walks around the neighborhood. While you may have to pick up poop, you don’t have to deal with the urine the way you do with litter boxes! It’s much more simple, it’s one less problem and you can simply use poop bags or a poop-scooper. Most importantly the use of the bathroom happens outdoors, and not inside your home!

While cats love to play with strings, and bat their little cat ball toys around, they can always play on their own, and don’t need people to keep them entertained. Unlike cats, dogs absolutely love to play, and it’s often interactive play that they want, especially with you! There’s nothing better than seeing a dog get all excited ready to play a game of tug-of-war, or play fetch watching them run back and forth having the time of their lives, or just playing chase in the yard. If your dog gets along well with other dogs, you can even set up a doggie play date!

Dogs are very smart and intelligent, and they can serve many roles! From a family pet to a protective guardian, or employed as a service dog to help someone in need. Service dogs can perform many tasks, such as therapeutic purposes, helping someone who is blind and needs a guide dog, or who has seizures and needs someone to be able to get help and alert others around them. There are dogs who work on farms, assisting the handicapped, and helping the police and military. There are many types of dogs and they all have different purposes that are beneficial to us. Dogs have incredible senses of smell, and hearing which they are known for. They can sniff out bombs, find a missing person, track down criminals and more! I think my favorite saying I’ve heard is that dogs are basically four-legged crime fighters! Try seeing if your cat would ever save your life!

While every dog surely has its frustrating moments and can be a pain, we love them more than anything. When you have more control over a dog, that means less destruction! If you were to try and control a cat, it would just screech and try jumping out of your arms scratching you. Most cats will go wherever they please, jump where they want to jump, scratch and mark anything they think needs marking. The right training and a stern voice can have a lot of power over a dog! If you were to try this with your cat, you’d be lucky if he even glances in your direction while continuing to do whatever it is a cat does.

As I could go on, there are so many reasons why dogs are great companions and better pets than cats! While cats are great, my grandma always says “Dogs are more loyal, a cat will just look at you like I picked you, you didn’t pick me.”
