Murray, NEB.-President Biden will deliver his first State of the Union Address to a joint session of Congress on March 1 at 9:00 p.m. Eastern. This is his chance to speak directly to the nation after a rocky first year in the White House. The continuance of the Coronavirus pandemic through winter of 2021, rising inflation and international conflict has marked the first quarter of the Biden Presidency. Whether or not he could have done more in any of those sectors is up for debate. According to polling average from FiveThirtyEight, more than a majority of Americans disapprove of Biden’s job performance. 54.3% of Americans disapprove while only 41.1% approve of his job performance. Data from FiveThirtyEight which continuously updates can be found here.

President Biden will attempt to turn that around in his speech and deliver a positive vision for the year ahead. He will highlight his accomplishment in making the Bipartisan Jobs and Infrastructure Act law. His speech is also in the midst of the Russian invasion of Ukraine and the world’s response. It’s not clear what all Biden will have for the nation but it is clear all of these things are in discussion at the White House.
