Murray, NEB – November 11th holds a special place in the hearts of Americans across the country. Veterans Day was originally called Armistice Day, marking the end of World War I, and was officially recognized as a national holiday in 1938. Today, it serves as a reminder of the debt and the gratitude we owe to those who have served and continued to serve in the military.
Every year Conestoga High School, along with Conestoga Elementary School, hosts a Veterans Day program. During the program Staff and students listened to the Conestoga band play and the choir sing, students and a guest speaker talk about what Veterans Day means to them and so much more. Senior John M spoke, Junior Alyssa B spoke about the schedule and the meaning behind Veterans Day. Junior Ember H read a letter she wrote about what Veterans Day means to her.
During the program everyone who attended had the privilege to listen to a guest speaker talk about his experience in the military such as him being the reporter and broadcaster. Veterans experiences will provide everyone an insight on the challenges they faced, and the triumphs they have achieved. The program ended with students and staff listening to a member of the Conestoga band play taps. After the program Veterans can enjoy cake and coffee in the commons and to look at the portable Veterans museum set up in the commons.Thank you to the heroic men and women who risk their lives everyday, and thank you to the Veterans that didn’t make it back home. Your efforts will never go unnoticed.
