Murray, NEB- The normal life expectancy for an HVAC system is around 15 to 25 years, but at Conestoga Jr-Sr High School, the HVAC has been going on and off for about 50 years.
This year Conestoga Jr-Sr High will be getting a new HVAC system throughout the whole school. The process has already started in hallways and some classrooms by removing ceiling tiles. Work is getting done little by little over weekends. When summer comes the whole school will be under work causing the gym to be out of use for most of the summer. It should be done by August and ready for the next school year.
The benefits of this will be seen all over. Superintendent, Michael Apple says, “This will help the kids not get sick with the proper airflow, and make it more comfortable for both students and staff with consistent air temperature throughout the school.”
New piping will also be installed throughout the summer. There was also a room added to the backside of the high school for new electrical systems. The new electrical work will still be worked on through the next school year.
At Conestoga Elementary, all of the windows are being replaced, along with new carpet being installed in the library. Making a total of around $10 million. The parking lots at each school will also be getting fixed up over the summer.
Freshman Hadley G. says, “I think it will help everyone learn better because the temperature will be regulated.”
