Murray, NEB- The NCAA division I tournament for both men’s and women’s basketball teams has begun. March Madness begins every year around the middle of March, the tournament teams are selected from a selection committee which forms the tournament. Sixty-eight teams for both mens and womens are selected and put into seeds 1-16, seeds are determined by how well the team played in the regular season. Every year 32 conference winners punch their ticket right away after winning their conference tournament. From then on the teams play in a bracket style format until there is a final champion.
Every year millions of Americans participate in March Madness bracket challenges online. But getting a perfect March Madness bracket is nearly impossible. The odds of getting a perfect March Madness bracket is 1 in 9.2 quintillion, you have a better chance of winning the lottery or getting struck by lightning than filling out a perfect bracket. This poses the question: will anyone ever get a perfect March Madness bracket? The closest someone has ever gotten to perfection was Gregg Nigl. Back in 2019, he correctly guessed the first 49 games of the men’s tournament until then-No. 3 ranked Purdue defeated No. 2 Tennessee in the Sweet 16, which would end his perfect bracket.
March Madness continues to be one of the most watched college sporting events. Overall the tournament is averaging 9.7 million viewers yearly, and during March Madness the NCAA will make roughly one billion dollars throughout the whole tournament.
