This week there were dance team tryouts. It took place over three days. It was a hard and stressful process, but rewarding in the end.
To make the dance team you have to have these skills: one split all the way down to the ground, toe touch, headspring, front handspring, kick-up, a double pirouette, an attempt areal, and three a la seconde cones into a double. Then after you do all of that you learn a dance with pom technique, hip-hop, kick, jaz and your own four -eight counts.
Dance tryouts started on Monday. There was a practice for two hours and you learned the whole dance. After dance practice ends you can get together with an upperclassman to help you memorize the dance. The next day you practice in the morning before school. At this practice you go over everything you learned the day before and practiced four -eight counts. The next day you had morning practice again and had a mock tryout.
The dance team dances at halftime at all of the home football games, home basketball games, and the wrestling cougar classic. At the beginning of the dance season they go to camp for four days and learn different dances. At the end of the dance season they go to state and compete in two different dances, stay in hotels and bond.
This year there are nine girls. Seniors, Kiersten J and Jozlyn K. Juniors, Chloe B, Layla F, and Piper G. Sophomores, Trystin H, Mya K, and Scout N. Freshman, Lillian H. Next year the team is going to be looking for more dancers so if you have ever thought about it is so much fun, and an amazing group of girls to get to know.
