Murray, NEB- One Act season is back with comedy being the theme which hasn’t been shown since 2011. According to Jessica Schlichtemeier, the director of one act, “We had looked at a variety of scripts last spring and really felt like the one we went with best met the talents of our returning actors. It also had the right amount of roles for the number of students who had expressed interest in acting this year.” This new theme is a major change for the department as Conestoga hasn’t showcased comedy for 12 years.
Auditions are held in May, but rehearsals start right away at the beginning of the school year. Every practice is roughly two hours long and practice is held on days where there aren’t any activity conflicts.
The official one act competition season starts in November where they will attend three festivals. One act will hit the road on Nov. 4 to compete in Schuyler, York on Nov. 11 and Lincoln Southwest on Nov. 18. In addition to the three festivals there is a conference on Nov. 20 and districts beginning the week after Thanksgiving. If the actors win districts they will then compete in the state competition the first week of December in Norfolk.
