Murray, NEB- Conestoga Jr/Sr High School just held their annual Fine Arts Awards night where awards for band, choir, journalism, one act, speech, and art were awarded to students.
There were awards for how students performed at different events for that activity and also student voted awards.
Cassi Vallis, director of band and guitar, gives her thoughts on the awards given out and how the season went for it being her last year.
“There were a lot of class rewards given out to both band and guitar. Some of the awards were MVP, one man band, best bass, most improved, and Giocoso. There were also official rewards for how well a student had performed during the season. For my last year, yes, I think it went very well. A lot of students had to step up and fill the leadership roles. A lot tried new things like auditioning for honor ensembles and solos. I’m super proud of how proud everyone was.”
Jesse Swantek, the art teacher, talks about rewards and the talent in and out of his art room.
“Official awards this year were very similar as to last year, just less first place ribbons. I think everything was very spread out and diverse. Most of the students winning the first place ribbons are the sophomores, who are really showing out. We last some talent with some of the older art students graduating, but with more students coming up we’re gaining more. We’re all very young right now, but all grades have very talented students. I gave out awards to students that placed at art conference and their skills overall.”
The speech and one act director Jessica Schlichtemeier gives her thoughts on the awards given out this year.
“Awards were good. We gave out a lot in both speech and one act and I’m really proud of all of the people that did and didn’t receive an award. Everyone worked really hard all season for both activities and put in effort. A lot of the awards were chosen by their peers and it’s always nice to see people recognize the hard work of others and to nominate each other.”
“I’m really proud of everyone,” says Rhiannon J, “Everyone is super talented and hard working in the activity they’re in and I think Conestoga has an amazing art program in all forms!”
