The Conestoga Varsity Volleyball girls suited up to travel to Louisville High School on Sept. 17. There, the girls played two games for their second Varsity triangular game of the season. They played back to back games. They lost to Elmwood Murdock first, playing three sets. The next game, they won against Louisville playing three sets.
“Against Elmwood, we played very slow and we didn’t have the energy we usually have,” senior Divida G. said. “That is usually a drawback coming back from winning a home game.”
Louisville won against Elmwood in the first game of the night. With Elmwood playing Conestoga next, the girls came in confident. Conestoga won the first set, 25-16. With a nine point difference, the girls were pumped up. They went into the second set putting up a fight and went to overtime. Conestoga lost 24-26. Keeping it a close game, the Cougars lost the last set 23-25.
“We had way too many little mistakes that just added up,” Head Coach Katie Serkiz said. “Our serving errors were one of the main reasons we lost. Going into the next game, the girls knew they had to step it up on serving.”
Louisville lost the first set of the game 21-25. Conestoga went into the second set cheerful. Although it was a close set, the Cougars lost 22-25. Coming back, Conestoga won the third set by ten points.
“We picked up our energy because we lost Elmwood. We were not going to lose back to back,” Divida G. said. “Even though Louisville beat Elmwood, we had the feeling like we were going to get them. And that is exactly what we did. We were cheerful, but focused up, letting us take a win home for the Conestoga Cougars.”
