College is an important aspect in life. To promote a college atmosphere Conestoga has an Annual College Week. Students throughout the week are doing college based activities and getting ready for their futures ahead.
To start off the week students were introduced to a college based bingo card. This card allows all students to interact with classmates and teachers to ask them about colleges. Throughout the week students had the opportunity to fill out the card and those who completed cards on Friday received a special prize.
“I think the bingo card was a good way to get to know your fellow students and to see what the teachers did before they taught at Conestoga. I want to go to UNL and become a teacher,” said Mya K.
Seniors had a full day of college prep on Wednesday. They participated in Apply2College, which allowed them to work on scholarships and applications. Staff was able to assist seniors if needed. Wednesday also involved College Gear Day!! Students who wore college gear earned a college prize during lunch. Not only did they earn a prize they were also entered into the drawing for the Visa Gift Card. Cougar Connections had college based lessons and activities to complete. Students and teachers talked about colleges and the many opportunities that come with it.
“As of right now I would like to go to Nebraska Wesleyan to study interior design. They don’t have interior design exactly so I am planning on majoring in business sociology and mining in art studio. I would also love to try out for their dance team. College week was weird because I am now applying for colleges and just applied to my first college (Wesleyan). It was also very fun, I like filling out the bingo cards as well, they are always fun,” said Piper I.
Seniors weren’t the only ones who enjoyed college fun; the juniors on Thursday had a college scavenger hunt. The scavenger hunt let juniors learn how to navigate different colleges’ websites. The more they got correct the higher chance of winning a prize.
College week comes to an end. Seniors finished the week off watching a college planning and financial aid presentation in government class. It taught them about the financial aspect of college. Later that next week students on Tuesday received their prizes. These prizes consist of gift cards. Students with completed bingo cards received a fast food gift card and were also entered into the drawing of the fifty dollar Visa Gift card.
“I think college week went well. We have been doing it for a while now so it is kind of one of those traditions we do. I think the seniors look forward to having time to work on applications and they get cookies to celebrate filling out those applications! We try to give lots of prizes for everything everyone participates in. Maybe coming up with new activities and maybe new competitions would improve College week,” said Laurel Kreifels.
