On Thursday, Sept 19 the Conestoga cross country team visited Ashland where the girls team got 4th out of 6 teams and the boys team got 6th out of 8 teams. Both teams ran 5,000 meters. The fastest Conestoga girl was Elliot Z who ran a 28:00.90, she placed 24th out of 33 runners. The fastest Conestoga boy was Jonah B who ran a 21:48.18 he placed 27th out of 44 runners.
Ryan Burns, the coach for the cross country team, is pleased with the outcome at Ashland saying, “Overall as a team we did well at the Ashland meet.”
The cross country team has traveled to Weeping water, Johnson County, Arlington, Ashland and Malcolm. With the majority of the placement being in the middle of the pack. Burns was asked what the team should do to improve and prepare for upcoming meets so they can climb the ranks, not be in the middle of the pack anymore and so they can stay at the top.
“To prepare we need our athletes to rest, recover, and work on speed throughout the next couple weeks.”
As the season progresses Burns wants to see improvement with people’s personal records, speed and just keeping the momentum going into the upcoming weeks.
“Our goals are to see continued improvement, and set some personal records before the season’s end.” said Burns.
