Every year in the fourth week of November, we celebrate the first time the Pilgrims and Native Americans came together and had a feast, celebrating the harvest and blessings over the year.. They created tradition and now we keep it alive, but we have added some of our own.
People have kept most of the traditions of Thanksgiving alive, but everyone has added their own traditions as well. A tradition that hasn’t changed is going to see your loved ones and gathering around the table and eating a huge feast, and creating memories that will stay with you forever. A tradition that I think people have forgotten is the true meaning of Thanksgiving, which is counting your blessings, and cherishing the time with your loved ones.
“My family just does the usual get together for dinner. But now I have a lot of nieces and nephews which makes it very entertaining,” Jesse Swantek explained.
Allison Dworak said, “My kids and I spend the day after Thanksgiving decorating and putting up the Christmas tree while watching Christmas movies.”
Thanksgiving creates memories for everyone! From laughing at an uncle for doing something funny, to seeing your cousins grow and mature, everyone has different memories, but they are all meaningful! As Thanksgiving is coming up, everyone will make new memories that will stick with them forever!
Scout N has many favorite memories of thanksgiving over the years, “My favorite memories would probably be when we did thanksgiving charades, that was hilarious! And then also watching football games with my family, and of course eating all the food which is delicious, go to mash potatoes and gravy.”
Ayden S said, “My favorite memory would be playing football in the yard with my family.”
When you think of thanksgiving what do you think? What are your senses dreaming about when you are getting ready for that day? The cinnamon, falling leaves, the fire roasting, the smell of ham filling the house.
“I am thinking about seeing my family that I have not seen since the last Thanksgiving.” Bella G went on, “I am smelling the roast chicken and the sweet potatoes. I am dreaming about the drive there and enjoying the view. I am eating EVERYTHING on that table and then regretting my decision later on in the day.”
”When I think of Thanksgiving, I think of the environment around the idea of thanksgiving. Think about it, you’re at home with your family, there’s fresh food being made that’s been cooked throughout the whole day,” Logan R shared. “Especially the outside, with all the warm colored trees, but with a cold atmosphere, it’s a kind of feeling you wouldn’t get from summer or spring, and sometimes even winter. Sure there’s always Christmas and New Years, but I think we overlook thanksgiving due to those two holidays, making Thanksgiving have a more fresh feel than the hype and excitement for Christmas. That’s what I think, but lastly, I think thanksgiving food outdoes Christmas by a long shot, it’s not even a competition.”
