Conestoga has many opportunities for students to get involved with the school community and interact with their peers, one includes book club. Book club allows students to read books they love and share their thoughts with others.
Conestoga has three different book clubs, Jr High, Freshman/Sophomore, and Junior/Senior led by Tracy Morton. Every Thursday during lunch book club members meet up and enjoy lunch together as well as discussing books. This year, the book club is changing it up allowing all members to read their own book of their choice.
“I find that book club is a time when people can get together to discuss something that they enjoy. A person doesn’t have to be an avid reader to be in a book club. I want to give the students and staff a place to go and feel comfortable talking and listening to others about something they are passionate about or a book they did not enjoy. Books are not one size fits all, that is what I think is awesome about our time together,” said Morton.
Reading is a very important part of life. It helps people with everything whether for a career, a person’s mental health or even just gaining more knowledge for day to day life. Book clubs in your local school can benefit students that attend to succeed in their future life and learn about communication skills.
“I think more people should join the book club because of the many benefits of reading. In book club, we are able to grow our basic knowledge and vocabulary through the books we read, but we also have detailed discussions about the material and it’s super interesting to hear so many different perspectives on one piece of literature!” said Callie T.
Any and all students at Conestoga can join the book club. All you need to do is tell Morton you are interested and attend a meeting. You don’t even have to come again if you didn’t enjoy it or just aren’t interested anymore. Book club is meant to be a comfortable place where all can enjoy reading not hating it.
“My favorite thing about our book club is being able to find community within our school. To see other students who love literature inspires me to continue reading books as well! This also gives me people to go to when I find a great book worth sharing!” said Callie T.
“What makes book club enjoyable is talking to the people and reading good books that are entertaining and interesting, always making me curious. Book club is a fun activity to know more about books, your friends, and peers!” said Presley R.
