Spring is the transition period between winter and summer. It is the season of rain, flowers blossoming, warmer temperatures and the renewal of nature and wildlife. Spring officially began on March 20 or 21. Many different cultures celebrate spring and its uprising differently whether with rituals or festivals.
Spring became a season through a combination of astronomical observations and the cyclical nature of Earth’s orbit and tilt. In the 14th century, spring was called Lent in Old English. It was the time of the year when plants started springing from the ground. After a century, the season was referred to as spring-time and later on shortened to “spring.”
Pastel colors are often associated with spring because of their light, soft, and airy nature which expresses the feelings of renewal, optimism, and the fresh, delicate beauty of the season. Not only does it have colors but also a sense of smell. When you walk outside you can smell the floral essence of the flowers blooming, the clean air and the freshly cut grass from parks and meadows.
“I love spring because my birthday is in spring and it makes me so happy to wake up to the sunrise in the morning. I can feel the warmth on my skin which makes me feel alive!” exclaimed Morgan S.
Many people love spring to do all the sports and holidays that occur. Soccer and Track and Field are the biggest spring sports. Many love to be engaged in school activities and now is the time with the warmer temperatures and great playing and competing conditions. Holidays are also a big thing during spring with Easter, Lent, Holi, and May Day. People can interact with peers, celebrate the period when Jesus rose from the dead, and the fun that comes with it during these holidays.
Spring is a wonderful time of year where friends and family can interact in activities and enjoy the beautiful temperatures and renewal of life. “Spring is far more than just a changing of seasons; it’s a rebirth of the spirit.” – Toni Sorenson.
