Now that we are entering into winter, winter sports have started. Wrestling is a big winter sport held for 2-3 months and to kick off the wrestling season, Conestoga’s wrestling team had their first practice on Nov. 18. There are a total of 24 wrestlers going out this year, 14 boys and 10 girls.
Their first match to their season is a boys varsity dual Dec. 5 at home in the gym. The boys are going against Southern High School.
The girls first match is Saturday, Dec. 7 which is the cougar classic. Cougar Classic is held at the high school in the gym every year. It is a big meet, there are 12 schools this year attending.
“I’m really excited to have the potential of winning a state title as a team and seeing what the team can give overall! I’m excited to see how the team grows and how new bonds will form in and outside of the wrestling room,” said Morgan H.
The coaches for the girls team are Mike Anderson and Rob Everett. The seniors for the girls team are Morgan H and Kyler Z. The coaches for the boys team are Nate Morris, Mike Kansteiner, and Colby Laughlin. The seniors are Collin D, Mason S, Colton B, and Fabian M.
“I think as an individual it will be hard being the last year but I think I hope I can improve from last year and hopefully stay in the running for a state title both individually and as a team,” said Morgan H.
The girls and boys practice together but they sometimes have different matches that they go to.
