Luigi’s Mansion is a Nintendo horror game where you explore a haunted mansion as Luigi, capture ghosts and find Mario. But, how did Mario get into this mess? In 2001, Luigi’s Mansion was released on the GameCube as a launch title
According to the back of the game case on the GameCube, it was said that Luigi got a letter in the mail, a letter that said that Luigi won a big mansion from a contest he didn’t even enter. Luigi was overjoyed seeing this letter and called Mario about it, Mario was also overjoyed and without a second thought, he made his way to the area. Mario eventually found it with its creepy exterior and still proceeded to head inside, the lights were on when he arrived and he got comfortable quickly.
When he was comfy he encountered a scientist known as Professor Elvin Gadd, a ghost researcher. He warned Mario that the mansion isn’t what he thinks it is, but Mario ignored him like he was crazy and kept exploring the mansion. Then at a point, he was ambushed by Boos, he ran for his life, and when Mario made it into the backyard he made a letter that said “watch out for Boos”. Eventually Mario was caught and put inside of a painting by King Boo, the one who made the trap to begin with.
Luigi eventually arrived with the mansion fully dark, every door locked, and Mario nowhere to be found at all. Luckily he crossed paths with the professor who was trying to find his portrait ghost collection that the Boos released. They both decide to team up to get professor E Gadd's portrait ghost collection back, and find Mario. When they both arrive at E Gadd’s lab, E Gadd explains that the mansion suddenly appeared a few days ago and that it was a trap. At this point, Luigi doesn’t even know that Boos are even in the mansion.
Luigi was given a Game Boy Horror for communication with the professor, and the Poltergust 3000. The Poltergust 3000 is a tool that will help Luigi to get through the mansion safely; it captures ghosts, you can use fire, water, and ice. The main goal in this game is to rescue Mario. The way to do it is to go through rooms, and collect keys to get your way to Mario.
In 2013, Luigi’s Mansion Dark Moon or named Luigi’s Mansion 2, was released on the Nintendo 3DS during the year of Luigi. This game is a little different compared to the first game, instead of having the ability to fully explore the mansions, it was formatted in mission structures, doing specific tasks to complete a mission. The other difference is instead of one big mansion, you get to explore five mansions with each mansion getting five to seven missions in each mansion.
The main story is about the dark moon, a crystalized moon in the sky that keeps the ghost in Evershade Valley peaceful. But one day what felt like out of nowhere, the dark moon broke because King Boo destroyed it, causing all ghosts to go hostile. E Gadd panicked and voluntold Luigi to help him; he was in his mansion living life peacefully. The main goal in this game is to retrieve the dark moon pieces, and rescue Mario? In this game, it’s a mystery how Mario was caught in the first place since there was no evidence on how it even happened, but the game tries to keep it a secret until near the end. They also try to make King Boo a secret until the final mansion in the game, but as you progress the game you can see signs of him.
In 2019, Luigi’s Mansion 3 was released on the Nintendo Switch on Halloween day. This game has multiple changes compared to the last two games. The Poltergust was updated and renamed to Poltergust G00, one of the biggest things you can do with it is slam ghosts to capture them. The other is the addition of Gooigi, a character who was created by Professor E Gadd; he is useful in a majority of puzzles in the game. This game takes place in a hotel, which Luigi, Mario, and Princess Peach were invited to. They agreed to take a vacation there before finding out it was a trap from King Boo himself again.
Later that night Luigi wakes up to Princess Peach screaming in horror and then finds the place haunted. When Luigi made it to the elevator he was ambushed by King Boo and he had no choice but to run away from King Boo, later finding out professor E Gadd also got caught by King Boo. The main goal in this game is to rescue everyone and the way to do it is to get every elevator button in the hotel. You have 17 floors to explore in the game and most of them have a boss ghost in it that has an elevator button.
