School has become more morbid since the removal of Windows. The windows used to show us how nice it looked outside, it was a moral booster similar to that silly cat poster that says “Hang in there”. For safety reasons we couldn't keep the windows, so instead of arguing for them back I suggest we introduce more plant life to our school.
I've heard a lot of students complain about how dim and depressing the inside of the school is, I've also heard students mention how nice it is when walking to the portables, or the Cougar Den. Simple walks outside are nice breaks for students but it's also not entirely safe, very similar to how the windows weren't safe, but it does introduce the idea of why the outside is nice.
What do you see when you look outside the window? Grass, sky, trees, plants, overall nature in general. Nature is key to morale, if students and staff enjoy looking outside or being outside, maybe we could bring trace amounts of the outside, inside. By bringing in plants to the school and having students take care of them via watering and artificial lighting, we can boost the overall morale of the school.
I'm not saying we should turn the school into a green house or anything by that means, but a nice house plant in a few classrooms, or even a fake plant scattered here and there, would be good for students and staff to look at. Maybe even artwork of nature in hallways or on walls would be good for morale.
It's really anything nature related, and by relaxing students it could also boost productivity which would benefit the students the most. We’ve seen countries with low work stress, like Italy, benefit from this and have an increased productivity because the workers appreciate the low stress environment and flourish.
The school has been under heavy construction so to ask for more plant life this year would be a little absurd. However a good idea to make this a possibility would be a club or class that would take over the responsibilities of the plants. Next year it would be a positive and viable change that would definitely help this school boost its overall morality.
