Gas prices in America have been going up due to the war going on against Iran. Due to this drastic fight America got cut off of the global oil supply by a blockage of trade coming through the Suez Canal that most of our supplied goods come through. The shortages in gas have caused a lot of stress on busy adults trying to go back and forth between their homes and jobs and pay almost two or three times more per gallon. Teens driving to school also have to deal with the gas prices, however plenty of them don’t have a job to support their travels back and forth to school, home, and other activities. This has caused some stress on those kids to take on jobs and focus less on school.
I believe that there should be a student discount on gas for both college and high school students. They could use their school IDs to identify to the gas stations that they are indeed part of an education system. This could help college students pay off their student loans quicker and be able to move into the real world without debt due to having to pay less on gas and more of their student loans. The student discount would be turned off during the summer, for all except summer school students, so that the power isn’t thoroughly abused.
This could be a system close to the one that many trucking companies have where the workers get a company card that pays for the gas for the trucks only when on shift, except that shift is the whole school year and the cards would be watched by a bank like how the account managers track credit and debit cards. If a student is caught breaking the rules their account can be turned off so they’ll have to pay for their own gas. Other ways the student could be punished for their actions could be the usual detention or suspension method that has become so popular in schools.
