Murray, NEB- As summer winds down, fall sports and activities come out. Known for their heart touching and inventive productions, Conestoga’s One Act is set to kick off this year’s season with the play The Trojan Women.
The director of One Act, Jessica Schlichtemeier, expresses why she chose the play and what challenges the actors and crew have experienced at rehearsals so far. “We originally had a different play in mind, but we didn’t have enough auditions, so we switched to The Trojan Women. We felt this play would be the most successful with the amount of people we had.”
Piper I, who plays the lead role, speaks on her part, “I was attracted to this role, because I was really striving to be a lead. I thought the woman I’m playing was very strong and very independent.“ When asking how she is preparing for her role, she said, “There are some challenges that I’ve noticed, like the amount of lines I have. There are so many, and some in general are just all together in one large paragraph. I’m trying to just memorize them best I can by the memorization deadline.”
Schlichtemeier expresses some of the issues the cast and crew have experienced so far this season, “Some of the challenges we’ve faced so far at rehearsals is that we’re slightly behind, because our stage has been under construction.”
Stage crew member Bridget M, gives some behind the scenes on some of the processes on this year’s production. “Our production includes us making everything from scratch. We’re using a lot of repurposed materials to create the set and even some of the props. It’s been hard so far, but I think it makes our production unique.”
“Join the One Act production and be a part of the team by being on stage or crew!” Exclaims actor Hannah B.
