Conestoga FFA, led by Kaitlin Kennebeck, competed this past Monday Feb 24th and Tuesday Feb 25th in 10 events. Monday 11 students competed in poultry judging, ag sales, and welding at SCC Lincoln. Tuesday 29 students competed in agriscience, floriculture, nursery landscape, natural resources, livestock management, food science and ag mechanics at SCC Beatrice.
Monday Spencer S, Kendall M, and Bre S competed in poultry judging. In poultry judging students look at eggs and chicken carcasses. Louie C, Carson H, Cydney V, and Alivia LR compete in ag sales. Ag sales is a mock sale of livestock photography business. Lastly Logan P, Tanner A, Hannah B, and Gavin H competed in welding where they do stick, o/a, tig, and mig welds. Unfortunately no of these events were state qualifiers but all did great!
Tuesday Morgan S, Makenna H, Kendall M, Carson S, Taylor W, Spenser S, Mazi A, Presley R, and Cody R competed in agriscience. Agriscience is where members perch/fetal pig dissection. Kash S, Ava W, Bre S, Brinn A, Louie C, Makenna H, and Presley R competed in floriculture, floriculture includes corsages, boutonnieres, round design, and plant ID. Kaylee H, Hannah B, Cydney V, and Paityn H comepted in nursery landscape. In nursery landscape they problem solve, do landscape design and plant ID.
The competition continued with Casron H, Kash S, Cydney V, Gavin Hm, Gavin Hr, Ava W, Casen C, and Chase C competing in natural resources, where students take a soil/general knowledge test. Bridget M, Robbi Z, Logan P, Tanner A, Mazi A and Morgan S competed in Livestock management, this let members interact with beef, dairy, pigs, horses and sheep during rotations. Robbi Z, Rachel U, Hannah B, Alivia R and Briget M competed in food science. In food science students take a triangle test, go over food safety and aromas. Lastly Chase C, Casen C, Taylor W and Cody R competed in ag mechanics. Ag mechanics includes electrical, hydraulics and tool ID.
All FFA members competed very well this Monday and Tuesday while many did not qualify for state many did! Agriscience, floriculture, nursery landscape, natural resources and livestock management all are state qualifying teams. Great job FFA!
