Murray NEB–On Wednesday, Sept. 15, Conestoga’s FFA chapter embarked on a journey to Grand Island, Neb. to take part in one of the largest farm shows in the nation-the Husker Harvest Days.

Agriculture teacher and FFA sponsor Kaitlin Taylor explained the Husker Harvest Days. “[It] is an event where farmers and FFA students from around the state can go learn about different agricultural careers, ag technologies, and students can learn about different opportunities within the ag industry.” Features include everything from cattle handling demonstrations to irrigation techniques to exhibits showcasing leading technology in the agricultural field.

Taylor said she believes this provides a valuable experience because it gives the students the chance to interact with some of the “literally hundreds of vendors” instead of just listening to guest speakers that she brings in.

When they arrived, the students were split up into groups and given a map and a “scavenger hunt” to complete. They had to go to a different vendor of their choice for each of the eight sections of agriculture. Once they arrived at a vendor they were given a challenge to complete. Allysa Batt, a Freshman who went, said that the scavenger hunt was one of her favorite parts of the trip, stating that she got to practice talking to a lot of new people she didn’t know.

Evan Svanda, a senior member of FFA stated, “I really like the Husker Harvest Days. I think it’s a good time. You get to learn a lot about new technologies in the industry, like new innovations, new crop hybrids.” He added, “It’s really valuable, especially for someone that may not know alot about agriculture. […] You can really learn a lot while you’re out there.”

The Conestoga FFA has gotten a running start on the 2021-2022 school year. With activities like this, they’re sure to continue to have an amazing time and learn many new things.
