The Smiths Bassist, Andy Rourke Dead at 59

Murray, NE- On May 19, Andy Rourke unfortunately passed away due to complications with pancreatic cancer. Rourke was best known for playing bass for the british indie rock band The Smiths.

The tragic news was publisized by guitarist and bandmate, Johnny Marr, who reported “It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Andy Rourke after a lengthy illness with pancreatic cancer. Andy will be remembered as a kind and beautiful soul by those who knew him and as a supremely gifted musician by music fans. We request privacy at this sad time.” Rourke was loved by fans, family, and friends who described him as a very likable person. The Smiths frontman, Morrissey wrote on Friday “He will never die as long as his music is heard.”

Andy Rourke had produced many 80’s hits along with his bandmates including “Heaven Knows I’m Miserable Now” and “This Charming Man”. The Smiths decided it would be best to break up in 1987, this left fans devastated but their music continues to live on and is still being streamed today .Rourke was active in The Smiths from 1982-1987 and will forever be known as a legend in the music industry.
