Conestoga Wrestler’s Off to State
After a great season, Conestoga’s wrestling team is now preparing to go to State!
Tomorrow is the day that the wrestling team has been preparing for all season; the state wrestling championship. The competition will take place on Feb. 18 at the CHI Health Center in Omaha, and Conestoga is proud to have five of their cougars compete. This year’s qualifiers are senior Keaghan C. and juniors Carter P., Gage T. and Emory T., as well as freshman Kylee P. Coached by head coach Troy Ruffner and assistant coaches Sean Trampe, Rob Everett and Bobby Hogue, the team could not have been better prepared.
What makes this season special is that this was the first year ever where there was NSAA sanctioned girl’s wrestling. Previously, girls could wrestle while registered as members of the boys’ team, however, they now have a league of their own. The girls have not disappointed either as they have had a remarkable season and are sending wrestlers Emory T. and Kylee P. to the first ever NSAA girl’s state championship. The Prowl spoke to Emory T. and she said that this has been the best experience in her life so far. What made it all so fun according to Emory T. was all the support and the new friends she made through the sport. She said that this experience has made her grow as a person and she can not wait to see what the future brings for the girls wrestling team because she knows it is bright.
Conestoga is proud and wishes their wrestlers good luck at state!
