Murray, NEB — On Tuesday March 29th, Conestogas girls and boys soccer played both a JV, and varsity game. The boys team played at home while the girls team traveled to Crete for their games.
The Girls Jv game started at 4:30pm, they played 20 minute halves with a five minute half time. The girls gave it their all but unfortunately couldn’t pull out the win and lost 0-1. The girls varsity team played at 6:30pm. The girls had only scored one goal in the first half but were able to get five other goals in the second half putting them at 6-0 by the end of the game.

Senior James Yost said, “I think we played well as a team, especially in the second half we really pulled it together. It’s fun to see everyone get the opportunity to score goals, some even their first.”

This is the girls fifth game of the 14 games they have and it seems like they have a good season to come. Yost also wanted to mention that the team has really started to succeed at passing and utilizing the defenders as a part of their offense. Senior MacKaylee Madsen, who is part of the back line, even scored a goal on her birthday!

The boys soccer team played at home at 5pm and 7pm. The varsity game is forty minute halves with a 10 minute half time break but unfortunately lost 0-1. They worked hard and pushed through it without failing to put up a good fight. The JV game then began at 7pm but the team unfortunately lost 5-2.

The JV scorers were freshman Cole Merwald and senior Dominic Gallagher. Sophomore Louie Caniglia said “I feel like we did a really good job all around, our defense was communicating well and we were making good passes. We were also making good passes and doing good with moving the ball around and switching fields.”

The boys also still have quite a few games left for their season with sub districts coming up in May. Caniglia also wanted to mention, “In my opinion, I think that we could have outplayed that team even though they won, I still believe everyone played with great effort, intensity and energy.”
