Murray, NE — The Cougar boys soccer team has been slugging it out all season long in their 2021 season bout. The Cougars, coached by Larry Welch and Jeff Brokaw, hold a 6-5 season record going into district play.

The Conestoga boys soccer team is nearing the end of their season. As the squad holds their best record in the past four seasons, the Cougars will look to enter district play, facing off first against Concordia.

The Cougars have held a steady attack all season, using their speed and finesse to cash in some goals. Junior Bryson Berg currently leads the squad with five goals heading into district play. Berg is accompanied by Wyatt Renner, who has four goals, and Ben Welch with three. Throughout the 2021 campaign, nine total players have accounted for a goal.

In the Plattsmouth game alone, six different players put numbers up on the board, as the Cougars went on to rout the Blue Devils 10-0. Conestoga’s scorers were: Bryson Berg (2), Wyatt Renner (2), Noah Simones (2), Jayden Widler (2), Grant Gross-Rhode (1), and Caden Simon (1).

Conestoga also has been sharing the rock all season, as 13 of their 20 goals on the season have been off of assists. Sophomore Kaden Simmerman currently leads the squad with three assists, and Ben Welch and Bryson Berg are close behind, each with two apiece. Six other Cougars also own an assist.

The Cougars have also been keeping up a tenacious, head-butting defensive attack all season. Seniors Grant Nickels and Koby Vogler have led the way on the defensive side of the ball, and goalkeepers James Parriott (Sr) and Jayden Widler (So) have been keeping the bag secured, allowing only about one goal per game as a duo.

The Cougars play their first district contest on April 29 against Concordia. Conestoga will be without starting defender Koby Vogler due to injury, but the squad will be looking to replace Vogler and advance past the first round.
