Girls Wrestling Districts

Murray, NEB – The Conestoga girls wrestling team traveled to Fremont for their Girls A-1 Districts. Overall there were 37 teams and 247 girls entered into the tournament. The conestoga girls team sent 8 girls to the event and left the tournament with 2 tournament champs and state qualifiers. The tournament started on Friday, Feb. 3. They wrestled the first 3 rounds of the winning side of the bracket and wrestled 4 rounds of consolation matches on the losing side of the bracket. At the end of day 1, 6 of the 8 girls still remained in the tournament. Kyler Z. and Hannah B. ended their season Friday night. Kyler ended her season with a record of 12-13, and Hannah ended her season with a record of 18-15. After the first day of the tournament a few of the girls were still on the winning side of the bracket. Kylee P. at 115 and Maggie F. at 145 both secured their spots in the semi finals. Alex p. At 120, Morgan H. at 135, Gabby L. at 155 and Allee jo I. at 235 were on the consolation side of the bracket to start the second day. To start off the tournament Saturday morning. They wrestled a round of consolations. Alex, Gabby and Allee wrestled their final matches of the season that morning. Alex finished the season with a record of 20-17. Gabby finished her season with a record of 21-18. Alle Jo finished her season with a record of 18-18. Morgan continued wrestling 2 more rounds securing her spot in the heartbreak round. Morgan lost her final match of the season 6-1, not qualifying for the state tournament. Morgan finished her season with a record of 29-11. Kylee and Maggie both secured their spots in the finals and got their tickets to the state tournament. Kylee advanced to the finals finding a pin in the first period, and Maggie secured her spot scavenging for the pin in the third period against the number 1 seed. Both girls not only secured their spot at state but also took home a district championship. Kylee wrestled Sophia S. of Raymond Central in the finals, one she had both beaten and lost to earlier in the season. Kylee secured the district championship with a fall of 1:40. Maggie met Daysha J. of Louisville in the finals. Maggie has received a loss against her earlier in the season, but that did not stop her from securing her district championship with a fall of 50 seconds. Kylee and Maggie will both wrestle on Thursday, Feb. 16, at CHI Center in Omaha. They will wrestle alongside our boys state qualifiers. We wish both of these girls best of luck.
