Track and Field is held in the spring season with warm weather and nice breezy winds. You have many options you can choose from when entering Track and Field whether its running events or field events. Bridget M, Kendall M, Allee Jo I, and Mazi A all decided to enter in girls throwing including shotput and discus.
Girls shotput and discus doesn’t just include meets but also hard and rough practices. Practices on the daily consist of warmups followed by reps and technique to help them improve their glides and spins when throwing. Even though practices may be rough, the outcome is worth it. These girls are able to improve their specific flaws and work together, providing criticism in a positive way!
“I think that practice goes very well, we get to learn a lot at practice about techniques that can help us throw farther. I enjoy the sport because throwing is a fun sport to do, it shows how much your strength can lead you and you make so many new friends every meet,” said Kendall M.
On March 21, Track and Field had an invitational at Doane college. Bridget M, Kendall M, Allee Jo, and Mazi all participated in shotput and discus. Bridget M and Allee Jo made PR in shot put, starting the season strong.
“I like shot put and discus because it helps me be an achiever by telling myself I can get further next meet or saying wow I did really well this meet. I think others should do it in the future because it really makes you set your mind to do something like seeing if your placement is good or if I put enough effort into it,” said Mazi A.
Track in Field is a great way for students and other peers to interact in a fun and outgoing environment. To join Conestoga Track in Field in any event all you have to do is attend the meetings, show your interested and email the head coach, Tommy Sigler.
Becky Michel (girls head throwing coach) says, “Some advice I would give to others is come and try it, you never know if you could be good at something.”
