Artificial intelligence has quickly become a part of a student’s everyday life. It was once thought of as futuristic but is now used on homework help, tests, and organizing schoolwork. As AI grows, it is affecting and changing the way students learn and put in effort.
On the positive side, AI can be a useful learning tool. It can give students fast feedback, explains topics in different ways, and helps study at their own pace. For students who lack this understanding in the classroom environment, they can use AI as a tutor which could be less intimidating for them. If it’s used correctly, AI can support learning rather than replace it.
Now there are some real concerns if it isn’t used correctly. Some students use it too heavily, using it to complete assignments instead of learning the material themselves. When answers are a click away, it is tempting to skip all of the hard work and take the easy road. This can affect critical thinking, creativity, problem solving, and other abilities that it takes to finish schoolwork.
Teachers are now adjusting to making more in-class assignments, discussions, and projects that help understanding. Just like calculators or the internet, AI should be a tool. It shouldn’t be a cheat sheet.
The future of education will include AI. We just have to make sure it helps students grow, rather than cheat.
