Should we keep Conquering Cougar Cards and Pride Paw Cards? The simple answer is no. The students at Conestoga would also agree, a vote of 67 percent for no while the remaining 33 percent voted yes.
Conquering Cougar Cards are for students who had perfect attendance that week and have had no missing assignments. However, many students are in sports and will be counted as absent for a game- losing the opportunity to get a card. Along with that, most of the students who do get cards forget about them or throw them away.
The students of Conestoga also get very mixed signals. The students don’t know where to go to get the prize, and the people who hand them out do it very inconsistently. The students simply don’t know about it and usually forget that it’s a thing.
Pride Paw Cards are also for students to get prizes. If a student is following the school’s motto- be safe, respectful, responsible, and kind- teachers may hand out a Pride Paw Card. With this being said, most teachers forget to hand them out in the first place. If a student does get a card, they turn it into their lunch period’s basket outside of the kitchen. Even if a student turns in a card, the drawings for them happen rarely- if ever.
These inconsistencies leave students confused and unsure about what to do with the cards they do get, and most students who were asked about the cards said they didn’t care about them.
Overall, the cards that get handed out don’t serve much of a purpose anymore. The paper and ink is usually just wasted, and students don’t benefit from the cards.
