For most freshmen, adjusting to high school is enough on its own. For Emma R, it also includes staying active in three sports: track, basketball, and softball.
Emma said she enjoys being involved and doesn’t mind the busy schedule. “I love participating in anything I can,” she said. “I think it's very important to stay involved because it teaches you life skills that you need later in life.”
Each sport brings something different. In track, she works on improving her times and pushing herself individually. Basketball adds more team-focused play, where communication and effort matter every game. Softball gives her another chance to compete while working with teammates in a different setting.
Switching between sports throughout the year can be tough, but Emma has handled it well so far. Coaches have noticed that she shows up ready to practice and is willing to put in the effort to improve. Teammates say she’s easy to get along with and brings a steady attitude to practices and games.
Even with practices and games, Emma keeps up with schoolwork. Managing time is important, especially during busy weeks, but she stays on top of it.
Being a three-sport athlete as a freshman isn’t easy, but Emma R is proving she can handle it. As the year goes on, she’ll continue gaining experience and improving in each sport. For now, she’s focused on staying consistent and making the most of her first year in high school.
