As the Cougars’ basketball season moves deeper into winter, junior Ella T has quietly become one of the team’s most reliable presences on the varsity court.
For Ella, the season has been a mix of growth and adaptation. “It’s gone really well overall,” she said. “We’ve had ups and downs, but we’ve learned how to stay focused and play together.” That mindset has helped the team stay competitive as the pressure of varsity basketball continues to increase.
Ella T made school history this season when the junior knocked down eight three-pointers in a single game, breaking the previous school record of six. Her performance stretched the defense and gave her team momentum at key moments, showing her growth as a varsity starter and leader on the court. The record-breaking night was a big milestone for Tegels and highlighted the impact she has had on the team this season as an upperclassman.
Over wins and losses, Ella said she has gained confidence throughout the season. “I’ve learned how important communication is,” she said. “Being on varsity forces you to speak up and trust your teammates.”
As an upperclassman, Ella is aware that younger players are watching how she carries herself on the court. “It’s kind of cool,” she said. “I remember looking up to older girls when I was younger, so now I try to set a good example.” She added that leadership is about want and attitude as much as performance.
From a freshman’s perspective, Ella’s calm presence stands out. Whether in close games or tough practices, she represents consistency and growth.
