Murray, NEB- Layla B. is a senior at Conestoga who has made a powerful impact in the community and as a leader in school. Through her dedication to athletics, service, and leadership, she has become a role model for her peers. Whether competing, supporting teammates, or giving back, Layla consistently sets the standard for what it means to lead by example.
She is involved in powerlifting, cheer, and National Honor Society. Within her activities, she has been recognized for her consistency and effort that she continues to put in everyday. This season, she serves as a captain in both cheer and powerlifting where her teammates can depend on her for support. Her leadership stands out through her confidence, knowledge, and willingness to hear feedback from those around her.
Head Cheer Coach, Summer Rieke shares that Layla always arrives at practices ready to work hard and deliver her best performances. “As a dedicated hard worker, she strives for what's best for the entire team,” Rieke added. Another thing that sticks out about Layla’s leadership is her positive attitude. She comes to practices upbeat and ready to hold the team accountable. Rieke states, “Layla also takes the initiative to attend various clinics to acquire new skills and share them with her teammates.” This proves her drive to always do what's best for the team and support them in any way she can.
This leadership extends beyond athletics. Outside of school, Layla has volunteered at the Heartland for Hope center where she and other team members handed out food and other groceries to families in need. She also has taken up many volunteering opportunities as a part of NHS and cheer. The Beaver Lake Auxiliary, youth cheer camps, and many other high school events are some things that she has donated her time to.
As graduation approaches, Layla has been prepping for her next chapter. After high school, Layla plans to attend the University of Omaha to major in business finance and potentially minorin art. She also has a plan that she hopes to achieve after college. “I plan on starting my own business, creating a women's only gym, so that I can help women feel more comfortable being active and healthy in their own space,” Layla comments.
“Over the years, Layla's growth has been multi-faceted,” Rieke shares. “She has blossomed out of her shell, gained the confidence to speak up, and diligently worked on becoming a versatile leader.”
