It’s that time once again, the Conestoga E-sports team is preparing for the upcoming season. What is E-sports? E-sports is an activity that involves playing video games in a competitive way, and where players go up against other schools to see who is the best. This season the Conestoga E-sports team is competing in a game called Super Smash Bros Ultimate. Super Smash Bros Ultimate is a platform fighter where your main goal is to knock the opponent off the screen. This game has 82 characters to choose from, and every character has a unique moveset to learn, and there are multiple stages to choose from in a competitive setting. This game is popular within the E-sports community.
In E-sports this game is a three on three competition. Each team will choose a player to fight for the first game, whoever wins in a best of three setting will get a point. The game is like a relay where you switch players after each set and if all players in your team win their match, that school wins. This is in a best of five, if both teams win two matches each, it would be settled in a game five. Every player can only play a maximum of two times each match, meaning one player can’t earn all three points for their team to win the match. Before the competition starts, you choose the character you’re going to use against the opponent and after that you ban stages you don’t want to play on. The players then figure out which stage to choose, they go fight in a best of three battles, and whoever wins two games gets the point for the team.
The E-sports season has already begun, they already went through their preseason which is used for practice. The Conestoga E-sports team fights schools from states like Texas, Arkansas, Illinois, Oklahoma, Missouri, Wisconsin, and Nebraska. The regular season goes for seven weeks and competitions are every Wednesday. If a team has many wins and is ranked pretty high, there's a great chance they’ll be qualified for playoffs. Playoffs is a single elimination tournament with other very high ranked teams, if they advance through many matches they’ll be qualified for state.
“I am very excited and it was always super fun to play either for glory or for fun.” Justice R stated.
