As the girls basketball season gets closer, the team is excited to see what they can do this year. With lots of new players, returning players, and growing team chemistry, they’re hoping to improve every time they step on the court. For the coaches and players, this season is about getting better and working together.
Head coach Mark Skiles said the main goal isn’t just winning games “Our main goal is to improve throughout the season to become the best team we can possibly be,” Skiles said. “The type of people we become by the end of the year is the most important thing.”
This year’s roster is bigger, with 22 players. Skiles said the group has several strengths early on. “We are a quick and athletic team,” he said “The camaraderie among the players is a definite strength. The players have great attitudes, work hard, and are very coachable.”
He also said the team worked a lot on shooting in the offseason and has already made progress. But the schedule won’t be easy. “We play several tough teams this year, many of which return their best players from last year,” Skiles said.
Even with the challenges ahead, he’s excited to watch the team come together. “I have high expectations for leaders to emerge on this team,” he said.
Freshman Cayeigh T. is also looking forward to the season, “I’m most excited to see how everyone will grow throughout the season,” she said.
She feels the team’s chemistry will help the most, “Our biggest strength is our bond with each other,” Cayleigh said.
And when it comes to game time, she knows the effort will show. “The games really show who wants it the most, “ she said.
