The Conestoga girls basketball reserve team played Syracuse on Dec 8.This was their first game of the season for reserve.
Freshman Cayleigh, Lexi, Lilly, Melody, and Sydney started off the game for the Cougars. Syracuse won jump ball and scored their first basket shortly after. The girls worked hard in the first quarter with defense and offense. During the game there were tons of accidental fouls. They ended the quarter with the score being 0 to 27.
The second quarter started off with the same starters in. They players went in with a good mind and played good defense. Toward the end of the quarter Emma T got fouled while shooting. She made one of two free throws making the first point of the game. The Quarter ends with the score being 1 to 37.
After the Cougars came in from the inspirational pep talk they started the third quarter with great defense. They got fouled a lot, having to shoot free throws. They also made a lay up. The score is now 4 to 53.
The fourth and final quarter of the game started off really well. Syracuse had trouble with the Cougars defenses. There were two lay ups made by the Conestoga Cougars even though Syracuse defense was still strong. The end of the game score was 7 to 57.
“the plan heading into the game was honestly just to have fun ultimately, I think everyone was a little nervous going into the game but we tried and that is all that matters,” Freshman Cayleigh shared, “I believe that our offense was clogging the middle, not allowing any of us to drive in or anything so we definitely needed to change that so we did and now we have an offense called 41. At the beginning of the game we were running man defense and in the end we were running zone. I think we can believe in ourselves a little more than we did overall.”
The Conestoga Cougars played with effort and passion throughout the whole game. This is just the beginning of their season and they plan on getting better and better as time goes on.
