On Tuesday afternoon, the Conestoga Cougars girl’s basketball teams traveled to Fort Calhoun to face the Pioneers. The bus left Conestoga at 2:30 p.m., carrying both the junior varsity and varsity teams. The players were highly motivated as they prepared for a long evening of competition.
The JV game started at 4:30 p.m. From the opening tip-off, the Cougars showed energy and determination. They fought for rebounds, moved the ball quickly, and played solid defense. Even though the scoreboard didn't go their way, the JV girls impressed coaches and fans with their effort. Many said it was a really good game. The team stayed close the first half of the game, proving that their hard work in practice was paying off. Despite the disappointing loss, the junior team left the court proud of their progress and motivated to continue improving.
At 6 p.m., the varsity teams took the field. The game was tough from the start. The Fort Calhoun Pioneers came out strong, scoring quickly and taking a lead. The Cougars fought hard, but the Pioneers' defense and shooting accuracy created a gap. By halftime, Fort Calhoun had taken control of the game, and the final score was 65-25. Despite this difficult loss, the Conestoga varsity players showed resilience. They continued to fight until the final whistle, demonstrating the pride and determination of the Cougars.
The trip to Fort Calhoun reminded them that progress comes from overcoming challenges. Both the JV and varsity teams gained valuable experience, and the Cougars are looking forward to making up for it in upcoming games.
