The Conestoga boys varsity basketball team earned a 67–54 win over the Ralston Rams on Tuesday night, pulling ahead in the second half after a close start.
The first half stayed competitive, with both teams keeping the score close. After halftime, Conestoga increased its defensive pressure and began scoring more consistently, allowing the Cougars to build a lead during the third quarter.
Junior Mason P played an important role in the JV win, helping lead the offense and keep the team organized on the court.
“We just played harder after halftime,” Mason P said. “We knew we had to step it up.”
Ralston tried to make a comeback late in the game, but Conestoga stayed in control by limiting turnovers and slowing the pace.
“We didn’t panic or anything,” Mason P said. “We just kept doing what we were doing.”
From a freshman’s perspective in the stands, the energy in the gym grew as the Cougars extended their lead. The student section stayed loud and supportive throughout the second half.
Mason P said the team’s focus was on winning, not individual stats. “I just did my job and tried to help the team,” he said.
The Cougars also benefited from strong teamwork, with players rotating in and out while keeping the same level of intensity. Defensive stops led to fast-break opportunities, which helped Conestoga maintain momentum. As the final minutes ticked down, the Cougars stayed composed and finished the game strong.
With the 67–54 victory, the Conestoga Cougars continue to build momentum as they move forward in the season.
