Freshman Lillian H has made the most of her first year of high school by getting involved in a wide variety of sports and activities. While many freshmen are still adjusting to high school life, Harlow stays busy balancing athletics, clubs, and leadership roles.
Lillian participates in several sports throughout the year, including volleyball, wrestling, and soccer. Each sport requires different skills and levels of commitment, but she enjoys the challenge of staying active in multiple seasons. She is also a member of the school dance team, which involves regular practices and performances. Being involved in both sports and dance helps her stay physically active and connected with different groups of students. When asked how managing dance and sports helps her stay active, “I don't have time to eat dinner so I'm just constantly moving,” Lillian said.
Outside of athletics, Lillian is involved in several academic and extracurricular organizations. She participates in Quiz Bowl, where students work as a team to answer questions quickly and accurately. She is also a member of the Book Club, which gives her the chance to discuss books and share opinions with other students. In addition, Lillian serves on the Student Council, where she helps represent student ideas and contribute to school events and decisions “I think it's important because it gets you involved and helps you make friends and it makes it less boring and more fun.”
Lillian is also part of Mock Trial, an activity that introduces students to the legal system while building public speaking and critical thinking skills. Managing schoolwork along with practices and meetings can be challenging, but Lillian remains committed. “I just try not to think about it and tell myself it will all work out in the end,” Lillian said.
Lillian's involvement shows how freshmen can explore their interests and stay engaged during their first year of high school.
