Robert F. Kenedy Jr., US Secretary of Health and Human Services, has released a new dietary guideline. The new guidelines say that people should consume less grains and more fruits, vegetables, protein, healthy fats, and even more cheese.
Many have said that it seems quite pointless compared to the 2011-2025 My Plate guidelines that say more grains should be consumed than fruits. However, according to The Nutrition Source, a website created by Harvard professors to inform the young learning minds, many American doctors' opinions are quite split. Some doctors say that too many natural sugars are unhealthy and could cause sickness and health risks and others say it will positively affect the amount of cholesterol found in America. The new guidelines advise against highly processed foods that can cause various illnesses and diseases that doctors generally warn against.
We can assume that many fast food restaurants won’t change the traditional recipes and meal plans to fit the new guidelines due to being more based upon the enjoyment of many of its customers' taste buds. However, will the school board make all schools follow the new guidelines like they did with My Plate in 2011 when My Plate first came out? Or, will they make schools stick to the much advertised and loved My Plate that they’ve been favoring for almost fourteen years.
When asked about the situation of the newest food guidelines principal Rob Guise said that the school board hasn’t yet talked about the new guidelines, however, he also stated that if the new guidelines are government approved then the new meals will begin next year.
