Cougars came up short against Yutan in JV and Varsity volleyball matchups.
Conestoga hosted Yutan for a night of volleyball on Thursday, Oct. 2. The JV team started the night off at 5 P.M., followed by the Varsity matchup. Both teams fought but the Cougars ended up coming up short against the Chieftains.
Mackenzie S shared her thoughts after the game saying, “We started off strong but we lost our hype and it led to us making more mistakes and getting down on ourselves.”
The JV team started strong in the beginning of the first set and kept the score close. Yutan pulled ahead in the middle of the set with their strong serving runs and scrappy plays. After pulling ahead they ended up taking the first set.
In the second set Yutan did not lose the aggressiveness, finished strong and took the match in straight sets. When asked about what the team did well, Lily T said, “we played until the whistle and fought until the game was over.”
The Varsity match followed, with Conestoga coming out with a strong performance and they claimed the opening set over the Chieftains. Yutan came back in the second set after getting used to the Cougars play and they ended up evening the match. The Chieftains took their momentum into the next two sets, claiming the game despite Conestoga's early success. Lorelai F stated what she thinks shifted in the second set for the Cougars, “Our energy went down, we stopped communicating as well.”
