Conestoga’s cross country team ran at districts on Wednesday, Oct. 15. The event was hosted at the Cass County fair grounds.
This was the last meet of the season for these runners, this is what Dylan B. had to say about how it went.
“The season went well considering how small of a team we have.”
Working with a small team has its challenges, but it also has some advantages. Sports with smaller teams are usually closer to their teammates than sports with larger teams, this can make a team stronger. This was shown in the relationships with the athletes during the cross country season.
“At first we were a little awkward teammates but as the season went on we almost became family.”
Because they had such a small team, the athletes were able to become closer to their teammates. The cross country team is losing four seniors this year, Jozlyn K., Rachael U., Gavin H., and Caleb A.
“I will miss my team a lot. It is a very amazing thing to see your teammates work hard and succeed, and even when that doesn’t happen, you are always there to support and build each other up.” said Jozlyn K., “I really enjoyed being a part of this team, and made a lot of friendships I never would have imagined I would make. I am extremely grateful for the opportunity and time spent with my team.”
She’s very grateful for the experience she had being on the cross country team. She will miss her teammates and is glad she was able to become friends with people she otherwise might not’ve.
“Nothing can compare to the memories and friendships made along the way, and the bond that you are able to build with the people that you might have not ever gotten to know otherwise.” She shared, “I made so many impactful memories and learned so much through spending time with the team these past 2 years, and even though the season has come to an end, the memories of the time spent together and fun laughs will not!”
The team’s season has come to an end, but their friendships have not. Every person on the cross country team gave it their all and tried to make the culture enjoyable. Dylan B. was asked if he was excited about next season, all he had to say was, “A little bit…”
