Murray, NEB- The Conestoga volleyball team has kicked off their season with a winning record of 5-3. The Cougars started practices towards the end of summer and have put work in leading up to their first game.
The Cougars started their season with a matchup against the DC West Falcons. Although it resulted in a loss for the Cougars after four sets, they didn’t let that stop them so they quickly turned it around and won their next three games. Following those games was a loss against Gross Catholic but then they faced off against Elmwood Murdock and Louisville in a triangular. The Cougars came on top against Louisville and shortly after they won in a close match against Mercy.
Conestoga welcomed a new head coach, Stephanie Booth, this year. “I am looking forward to seeing the progress we can make as a team. I am excited to see different players get more involved in our offense to help us win more games,” Booth states. Some goals she has for this season are to develop a positive culture, improve volleyball skills, and to increase IQ’s among the players. When asked about her experience coaching this team for the first time, Booth exclaimed, “I have really enjoyed getting to know the girls so far this season! I have three seniors this year that have played a key role in our team as a whole.” She also can’t wait to incorporate more team bonding to help develop the positive culture.
Senior Miley C. says, “This season is going really well and I’m really proud of how we are doing and playing.” To lead her team she has tried to stay positive and bring everyone's energy up when they need it. In the past the Cougars have been working hard on their defense and going for everything which is something Miley hopes to continue. Her favorite memory from this season is when they were at their Tekamah Herman tournament, they were waiting in a tiny classroom where they played granny while they waited to play their last game.
“I think it’s really sad that I’m never gonna play high school volleyball again or play with these girls, but I am just trying to make the best of the season so I can remember it forever!” Miley exclaimed.
