Murray, NEB- The Conestoga football season is in full swing. They have started off with a 1-3 record and continue to look for improvement.
The team has played four games so far this season against challenging and physical teams. Their win came against Falls City and they lost to Archbishop Bergan, Arlington and Yutan. Head Coach Troy Quick said, “We have played more physically in the last two weeks. We have played some bigger teams, and we haven’t backed down from them.”
Although facing some tough losses the team has had a successful beginning to the season. The players have proven that they can step up and compete through tough times. Quick explained, “For the last three years I have been trying to get our team to understand that you can’t shy away from competition, no matter who it is. I have finally seen that from our team this year.”
With a small football team many obstacles are presented. The team has to push through challenges everyday in practice and competition. “Our biggest challenges we have faced are our numbers and the fear of injury. Having only 27 players we can’t afford to lose too many for any length of time,” Quick stated.
The Cougars have five games left in the season and they have goals they are looking to achieve. Quick expressed, “We want to get better every week, we want to limit other teams' big plays, have no self-inflicted harm, examples of that would be turnovers and penalties and lastly to just put it all out on the field for 48 minutes.”
