Conestoga hosted a full night of volleyball on Thursday as the reserve, JV and varsity faced Omaha Mercy in back to back matchups.
The night began with reserve taking the court at 5 p.m. The reserve girls battled through their game but, but Mercy was very consistent and ended up taking two back-to-back sets ending the match. Despite the outcome, the reserve team learned from the experience and they now know what to work on in practice for future growth. Emme P a reserve player said, “Despite the outcome this game helped us get stronger and learn what we need to work on.”
The JV team took the court next at 6 p.m. in another challenging match. The JV team struggled early on to keep up to Mercy. Even though the JV team had some good rallies, the Monarchs pulled ahead and Mercy took the first two sets. Makenzie C, of Conestoga said, “Even though the game did not go our way we worked really hard even when we were down and we learned from our mistakes.”
Varsity closed out the night at 7 p.m. After some ups and downs in the match Conestoga showed up with a scrappy defense and important kills. One player that stood out was cougar Lorelai F. She beat her record of kills per game with 20. The Cougars pulled through winning the majority of the sets. “ I think what helped us win that game was our communication, energy and cheering each other on because usually when we are losing energy is down and so we try to stay positive, " Lorelai F said.
The games ended with mixed results but the Cougars teamwork stood out on all levels.
