Conestoga’s varsity football team won their first home game this season on Friday, Sept. 12.
After keeping a strong lead the entire game, the football team ended the night with a win. During the first quarter Dylan K. took a hard hit and ended up with a concussion. The second string quarterback, Peyton L. had previously been injured and is currently out of games; Noah E. stepped up and filled the shoes of such a vital position. When Noah E. was interviewed about his role in the game, this is what he said.
“It was a little nerve wracking at first, but after a couple of plays I got in a groove and things just felt natural from there. My lack of experience was definitely a challenge, but I just controlled what I could and did my best.”
Things in the beginning of the game rapidly changed from what the team had originally practiced, despite this though, players were able to adapt to the new situation and managed to pull through. When asked about some challenges the team may have had to overcome, Troy Quick was not available for comment.
Brandt M. is a prime example of the football team being able to adapt to new situations. The young underclassman found a way to score not one, but two touchdowns during the game, becoming the team’s lead scorer that night.
Last Friday was a test for the Cougars strength as a team, but they stood strong and won. Go cougars!
