Conestoga High School’s cross country meet was this Thursday. The meet took place at a military base and was 5 kilometers long or roughly 3.1 miles. On average a person can run a 5k in 25 minutes comfortably. Our runners were able to cut that by 5 minutes and more.
“The race was not only long but also annoying, the sand on the course made it hard to get any traction,” stated Corbin M.
Additionally, the junior varsity team has been competing for the last varsity spot. There are six runners on the varsity roster with the top five running under 22 minutes. The sixth runner on Varsity has been changed out due to recent times with Corbin taking the last spot on varsity.
“Weve all been competing for spots and it seems Gavin wants it the most,” Stated Corbin.
While the boys team ran a really good race the girls team had some problems with Rachael U dropping out of her race due to injury. Joslynne kept running the race however and got a new personal record. Both Jozlyn and Rachael are the only girls on the varsity high school team.
“Around mid race at the 2 mile mark my leg hurt really bad and I had to drop out, I’m fine now,” stated Rachael.
“We did everything we could when it came to preparation and it paid off,” stated coach Ryan Burns in a recent interview.
