Murray, NEB- The foreign exchange program is a program that allows students to go to school and live with a host family in a different country.
Iseult M is a foreign exchange student who is involved in basketball and plans on joining track in the spring. “I chose to become an exchange student because I wanted to discover another culture, another way of life than mine,” she says. “But also to force me out of my comfort zone and create memories.“
When coming to the United States, Iseult M found that the people here are really friendly. She states, “The thing that surprised me the most is how people are friendly and warm with each other, even if they are not really friends or don’t really know each other.”
Iseult M has experienced some challenges and some positives while trying to navigate a new country. She found the most challenging thing to be the language barrier. When she first got to the United States, it was difficult for her to understand what people were saying.
Her favorite part of being in a new country is the opportunity to do sports. She comments, “My favorite part about being here is definitely being able to do sports easily and every night. It is so much fun!”
Since being in the United States, Iseult M got the opportunity to become a friend, teammate and part of a family. She states, “I will say that even if the beginning is hard, after three months everything is so nice.” She adds, “I will also say to join a sport and enjoy it as much as possible because it passes really quickly.”
