Murray, NEB- National Honor Society lunch buddies gives the opportunity for NHS members to connect with third graders. They join them for recess and lunch with an additional activity to follow.
National Honor Society members traveled down to the elementary school last Wednesday to accompany the third graders for indoor recess, where they made crafts and played games. After lunch, they went back to the classrooms and did an activity celebrating the 67th day of school. To finish off the day, they played a couple rounds of heads up seven up.
Conestoga National Honor Society has been doing lunch buddies for three years. NHS members go down to the elementary four times a year, once a quarter.
National honor society sponsor, Rebecca Spangler, says they started doing lunch buddies to build positive connections between strong leaders with good character and younger Cougars so they have positive role models.
Member of National Honor Society, Hadley G. finds lunch buddies to be one of her favorite parts of NHS. She quotes, “I like being able to connect with the children that look up to us as high schoolers.”
Grace R, member of National Honor Society adds that the most rewarding part is seeing how happy the elementary students get and knowing they look forward to the meetings every time. Additionally, she says that making friends with the kids is her favorite part of going to lunch buddies.
Spangler states that they hope to continue the lunch buddies program every year in the future.
