Murray, NEB- The Conestoga Powerlifting team had a successful competition season, qualifying four members for National Powerlifting in late March.
This year, the powerlifting team consisted of 18 members, which is the most the program has ever had. The members had a very successful season competing at three different meets. They traveled to Peru State early in the season, then to Gretna later on, and finally to the state meet at Omaha Central High School.
During the meets, the team received six medals in total, including four first-place medals and two third-place medals. Throughout the season in between meets, the members of the team continued to gain strength and work on making themselves better.
On February 21, four team members, Layla B, Gavin H, Lydia T, and Christian Z, all traveled to Omaha for the state powerlifting meet. All competitors competed well enough to qualify for nationals in March. Lydia T. found personal success, placing first in her class and earning second place for the overall women’s best lifter at the meet.
“Overall, we had a great season,” powerlifting coach Reann Schreiner expressed. “Everyone consistently came to practice and got better every single day! Everyone on the team made new personal bests throughout the season. Adding in the medals we won, it was a great season!”
Coach Schreiner and members of the team are looking forward to traveling to nationals and to improving for next season. Schreiner exclaimed, “Next season, I'm looking forward to attending more meets and continuing to win at those meets. I hope that more people continue to join and keep on getting stronger!”
