At Conestoga High School, everyone attended the school wide career day event. This event was meant to inspire, inform and present different job opportunities for Conestoga students after high school. Some students were excited while others called out of school, but one thing is certain, the event was very useful and gave many students a plethora of tools to use. Students in need of scholarship opportunities received forms and information on colleges located in Nebraska.
You might be wondering, why do some students skip career day if the opportunities were that good? "I already know what my plan is," replied Carsen S, a junior, when asked why he skipped the event.
The school day was halved with almost all classes lasting 30 minutes. So overall the day was somewhat relaxed with many teachers lowering the work load. The classrooms were then cleared at around noon so the informational speakers could talk to whole groups at once.
"We had to move some chairs around so the speakers had the class’s full attention," stated Rebecca Spangler.
There were approximately five sessions and a big walk around event, hosted after lunch. The walk around event featured stands with candy and pamphlets. The pamphlets had information about colleges, trade schools, or manual labor jobs for students interested.
Many students from Conestoga found the classes entertaining as well.
“You get to skip one project [for engineering and drafting] if you submit a reward given at the booths,” Ryan Burns shared.
Conestoga has so many bright students and there are so many opportunities, many are grateful for the benefits and insights on jobs given to them at this event.
